Dove season (and THIS season) open today in Texas

The shotguns are loaded, the mojo decoys have fresh batteries, and hunters across Texas are practically bouncing in their snake boots because today marks opening day of dove season.

Mother Nature decided to be extra generous this year. We got plenty of rain, which means plenty of food, which means plenty of fat, happy doves hanging around. Experts are calling it a perfect storm of conditions.

When everything lines up like this, experienced hunters know they’re looking at what could be the best season in years.

But here’s the thing about perfect conditions – they don’t last forever. The smart hunters are the ones who recognize the opportunity window and jump on it fast. They’ve been preparing their gear, scouting locations, and getting ready to make the most of what could be a banner year.
